Additionally, the Note lineup has been revised, with a special new “Plus navi HDD" upgrade to some models.

Nissan Rogue Review

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time: introduce American car buyers to Nissan’s new cute ‘ute in an episode of NBC’s hit show Heroes. And so we see the Rogue in the hands of a world saving high school cheerleader– ensuring its chick-car status for all eternity. The car is easy to boost? Why didn’t technopath Micah Sanders get a booster seat, take the wheel and show Ford the true meaning of “sync my ride?” All of which leaves me wondering: is the Rogue good enough to survive its own marketing?

Nissan RogueNissan Rogue-2From the looks of it, yes. Although the upward kinked rear window is a Murano cue without which I could do, the Rogue’s swoopy lines are generally as fresh as a pair of Puma sneakers. The height vs. width solution makes the vehicle look decidedly skinny from certain angles, but that may be part of the appeal (you can’t be too tall or too thin). And cheers to the designers for realizing nobody wants to see your spare tire.

The Rogue’s design loses coherence at the front. If the crossover’s grill actually made French fries at least they’d be an excuse. As it is, the monochromatic prow lacks a dramatic focal point or expression. To bad the varsity team from Infiniti didn’t do more coaching; their similarly proportioned EX has a far more appealing Cheshire cat grin.

Nissan’s svelte utility vehicle has one engine option: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The powerplant’s 170 horses and 175 lb-ft of torque fit the demographic remit: not being slow and not sucking gas. Bonus! Floor it and the Rogue will charge-up on-ramps with growly, thrashy abandon. Around the corners, at speed, the Rogue should not go; the tires and chassis will tell you so. If you don’t listen, four-wheel anti-lock braking, Electronic Brake force Distribution, Vehicle Dynamic Control and Traction Control will remind you.

In terms of size, weight, engine output and gas mileage, the three CUVs cited above are virtually identical. The Rogue loses 15 cubic feet of cargo area due to its sleek lines. It does have The Mother of All Gloveboxes, and lots of clever cubbies for iPods, laptops and meal cards.

Nissan Releases New Serena Minivan

Nissan Releases New Serena Minivan

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the release of the new Serena minivan, which goes on sale at Nissan dealers throughout Japan. The new Serena, which has been highly acclaimed by customers for its class-leading interior roominess, excellent outward visibility, flexible seating configurations and driving ease, features revised exterior and interior styling, leading technology features and a new model lineup.

Marketed under the tagline "SHIFT_family ties," the Serena has been the top-selling minivan(*1) in the Japanese market in terms of cumulative sales for the first eleven months of 2007.

New Exterior Styling

Serena’s exterior styling has been enhanced with a more distinctive and modern front end design, including a new grille, new headlights, front bumper and fenders. The Highway Star model also features more dynamic front-end styling, with even stronger character lines.

Other exterior improvements include remote-controlled power-folding body-colored outside mirrors incorporating turn signal lamps on all models, redesigned wheel covers on the 20S model and the addition of AFS to bi-xenon headlamps as standard on the Highway Star model, and optional on all other models.

These additions improve upon an already highly practical and stylish minivan, with large side sliding doors and low floor height for easy entry and exit, standard sliding door automatic closing feature on both sides of all models and on the 20G model, standard remote-controlled automatic sliding side doors.

Eight body colors are available on the new Serena, including three new colors – a metallic Kingfisher Blue, a pearlescent Rose Red and a pearl metallic Cool Iron.
Revised Interior Amenities

Serena’s large interior provides ample legroom and headroom for comfortable long-distance travel and a cargo area that can easily accommodate large leisure equipment. Most notable about Serena’s interior is its versatility, with seats that are adjustable to 11 different positions and third-row seats that utilize assist springs for simple, easy operation.

The new Serena features a variety of interior enhancements, including revised instrument panel with standard Fine Vision instrumentation and new interior trim.

Special attention was paid to the new Serena’s seats, which feature new front- and second-row head restraints and Seat cushions, new Seat fabric, including the adoption of ATO-GUARD®(*4) treated Seat covers standard on the 20G model. Water-repellent fine velour Seat covers are available in a set with the personal table on the 20S and 20G models. Two types of seats are available.
Leading Technology, Comfort and Convenience Features

Also new is an intelligent air-conditioning system which incorporates a one-touch automatic clean air filtering function, standard on the G20 and optional on other models.

Additional technical enhancements include an exclusive suspension system on the Highway Star model for more stable handling and improved ride comfort. A new Active Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) is also standard on the Highway Star model.

Four-wheel drive models also attain the same reduced emission levels under the 10-15+11 test mode.

Fuel economy for the two-wheel drive models has been clarified to closely match actual fuel consumption in real-world driving conditions, through tests conducted JC08 test mode, as well as on conventional 10-15 test mode data. To assist Serena drivers in matching those numbers, all models feature a new fuel consumption display function added to the liquid crystal display odometer and twin trip meter.

Nissan Grand Lavinia introduced in Malaysia

Nissan Grand Lavinia introduced in Malaysia

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) launched today the all-new Nissan Grand Livina, one of a family of new global models from the company.

The Grand Livina is a mid-size 7-seater MPV, designed and engineered in the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan, first introduced in China in 2006 followed by Indonesia, Taiwan & South Africa this year.

Aside from its elegant and modern design coupled with its luxurious and versatile interior, the Grand Livina provides a sedan-like ride, comfort and handling that is unparalleled in this class of mid-size MPVs - hence it's communication tagline, "Drive's Like A Sedan, Fits Like A MPV". The Grand Livina also comes with new generation Nissan engines that offer brisk performance coupled with exceptional fuel economy to meet the needs of Malaysian drivers.

Using a monocoque body structure, the Grand Livina is powered by either a 1.8L MR engine or 1.6L HR engine with CVTC (continuously variable valve timing control) for improved performance and fuel efficiency. The 1.8L model comes with the choice of a four-speed automatic transmission while the 1.6L version is equipped with either a four-speed automatic transmission or five-speed manual transmission.

Price range : On-the-road prices (inclusive of insurance, road tax, registration fee and ownership claim fee) valid for Peninsular Malaysia will be from RM82,800 to RM95,300 (from USD 24,800 to USD 28,600).

In Malaysia, the Grand Livina is assembled at the Serendah plant of Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn. Bhd.(TCMA). This new facility started production from August, 2007. TCMA invested 67 million US dollars for the new plant and has fully implemented the Nissan Production Way (NPW) which is Nissan’s international standard for global quality manufacturing and vehicle assembly.

“Today, we are very excited to introduce the 1st non-national CKD medium-size MPV in the 1.6 Liter & 1.8 Liter segment. We aim to capture 15% of the total MPV market with the Grand Livina and, in all, the Grand Livina is expected to contribute to as much as 30% of ETCM’s total sales,” said Dato’ DR Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd. “Grand Livina provides sedan-intenders an alternative choice for a high-quality and modern design with spacious and flexible seating.”

With momentum in new markets, Nissan plans to introduce this new family of global vehicles to more countries. During 2008, the Grand Livina will be introduced in the Philippines and the Livina into Indonesia. For each of those markets, the vehicles will be manufactured locally.

2008 Nissan Forum Concept

Though minivan sales have cooled significantly in the past five years, American families snap up more than a million minivans annually. Brands like Ford, Nissan, and GM may have pulled back from minivans entirely but Chrysler, Honda and Toyota are still dedicated to providing buyers with those traditionally flavored family movers.

2008 Nissan Forum Concept2008 Nissan Forum Concept-22008 Nissan Forum Concept-3The Forum concept isn't unrecognizable to minivan drivers and owners. It has the big box in back for kids and cargo, but Nissan designers have gone with a higher beltline, styled side glass and a wider stance, to give a more sporty feel to the traditional one-box van. Emphasizing that theme is a curvaceously sweeping grille that is accented by a soft LED light bar. While Nissan hasn't eliminated the sliding doors that parents love, it has carefully hidden their tracks.

The front doors swing open to a 90-degree angle. Further enhancing the sense of spaciousness, the Forum's sides have lost the typical B-pillars that would reinforce the middle of its body; instead, designers have penned in stronger door and roof frames. Atop the Forum, the huge SkyView roof contains hidden sunshades, permitting the glass to be closed off on hot days.

Nissan has even built in a pair of "Kids Cams," which can be displayed on the instrument panel's LCD monitor. If a little discipline is needed, there's also a "Time Out" system, which will mute all audio devices - and broadcast the driver's voice on all the Forum's speakers.

Under the hood, the Forum features a clean diesel engine, like the one the automaker is planning to offer in the next new Maxima sedan. It's mated to a version of the mileage minded continuously variable transmission (CVT) Nissan has been rolling out throughout its global product lineup.

Whether the Forum will take a place in the Nissan lineup is unclear. It's obvious that the automaker is looking for an acceptable alternative to its slow-selling Quest minivan. If the Forum gets people talking the idea up during the coming auto show season, Nissan very well could find a place for this new people mover.

Nissan Qashqai Hits 100,000 European Sales

Sales reach 100,000 in nine months

Nissan’s compact crossover, the Nissan Qashqai has just hit the landmark of 100,000 customer sales in Europe.

Sales began in March and the 100,000th customer sale was completed during the last week of November.

The UK, Russia and Italy are the Nissan Qashqai’s three largest markets, with sales at the end of November of 17,554, 15,376 and 10,746 units respectively since launch. Furthermore, demand for Qashqai in countries such as Austria, Holland, Portugal, Greece, Slovakia and Norway has dramatically exceeded expectations.

Indeed, the Nissan Qashqai has exceeded all sales forecasts since its launch in March. To meet demand for the car in Europe, production was increased by 20% in June at the factory in Sunderland, England, where it is manufactured. And starting this month, the manufacture of the Japanese version of Qashqai will be transferred from Sunderland to Nissan’s factory in Kyushu, Japan, freeing up extra production capacity for Europe. Sales of Nissan Dualis in Japan, as it is badged in that market, have also exceeded expectation, with total sales of over 18,000 sales since its introduction in May.

Initial European customer feedback shows that buyers like the Qashqai for bringing something new to the market; for its strong, distinctive design which sits between a traditional hatchback style and a more robust, elevated SUV shape.

Qashqai buyers have consistently cited the premium quality interior and overall design as key factors in changing brands to Nissan. As anticipated, buyers of Qashqai typically used to drive a compact hatchback, such as a Megane or Astra, an entry-level family hatchback, such as a Laguna or Avensis, or an economy SUV, such as a Kia Sportage or Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Qashqai was designed and developed in Europe following extensive research of local market buying patterns and a deep consumer analysis of unmet needs among car-buyers. Nissan Europe’s product planners identified an opportunity in the market to design and develop a vehicle which provided more dynamic design, without the perceived aggression of a compact SUV, yet maintained the elevated driving position which is popular, but not at the expense of driving enjoyment. The Qashqai is that model.

The Qashqai was designed at Nissan Design Europe, situated in Paddington, London, while technical development was undertaken at its technical centres in Cranfield, England, Barcelona, Spain and near Bonn, Germany.

Qashqai Facts and Figures:

* In May, the car was awarded the maximum five-star rating for adult occupant protection from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), with the highest ever recorded score for any vehicle.
* On average, 850 Qashqais are built a day at Sunderland
* Each Qashqai receives 4608 spot-welds in construction, administered by 298 robots
* 920 different combinations of Qashqai have been manufactured
* It takes 10.5 man hours to build a Qashqai (including bumper mouldings and painting, and axle production)
* A Qashqai contains approximately 2750 components (depending on specification)
* A Qashqai is 4.34m long, so if the 100,000 Qashqais were parked in a line, it would stretch 434km.
* Distance from Nissan’s Sunderland factory to Nissan Design Europe, Paddington, London, where Qashqai was designed: 434km!

A sexy minivan Nissan concept goes for it

Is the battle for minivan buyers moving beyond the cupholder, nifty cargo bins and seating and into the modern media age?The lowly minivan is getting a radical makeover and communications upgrades in the form of the new Nissan Forum - a concept to be introduced at the North American International Auto Show next month. Minivan sales are dropping and some automakers are abandoning the segment altogether in favor of sexier crossovers. The slump has some automakers looking at real styling innovation and equipment upgrades to overcome the commodization of minivans by low-price Korean automakers, for example, analysts say.

Nissan ForumThe Forum
- created by Nissan designers in La Jolla, Calif., and Farmington Hills, Mich. - is designed to shuttle the digital family with a little more pizazz. Like other recent Nissans, this one comes with an all-glass roof. It's a change taken right out of the playbook of Acura, which gave the boxy MD-X crossover a radical makeover more suited for a starring role in a Matrix movie.

Nissan first showed the Forum in November to journalists gathered in Las Vegas for the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association show - a gathering of purveyers of custom parts and accessories for pure enthusiasts. The SEMA show is not your typical venue for minivan followers, but Nissan turned up the volume just to be sure to make some noise.

The Forum's equipment includes an advanced Bose media system with proximity sensor-based information controller, a one-button audio muting system, 2nd and 3rd row monitoring cameras, and individual seat-mounted speakers for every row. And until the Forum arrives, you can always take NFL quarterback Peyton Manning's advice: add some flames to your favorite minivan.
